Work in Honduras

While our team was in Honduras, we did some work in the Villa Linda Miller community. This community was built for people who had been displaced after Hurricane Mitch that hit Honduras in 1998. Our first project was to help build a wall addition to the school building and our second project was to paint the outside and inside of the existing school building. As you can see from the photos, we worked very hard and finished all that they had planned for us. I really enjoyed helping this community as everyone was very thankful and appreciative of all our work. It is also encouraging for me to see how this community has grown over the past 5 years. My first trip to Honduras was in 2005 and so much has changed since that time as more people have come to live in this community. Enjoy the photos.

Preston and Steven in Florida

Preston and Steven had a great time in Florida with Aunt Kristen, Uncle John and Cousins Natalie and Jack. Steven said that the kids played very well with each other, they had fun playing in the sandbox and at the beach one day. Overall, Steven really enjoyed being able to spend time with them and see their place in FL. Here are a few photos from their trip!

Children of Honduras

I love spending time with children, especially the children I met while in Honduras. These children were fun, energetic and compassionate. Despite speaking different languages, it was amazing how I was able to connect with them with a smile, a laugh or some sidewalk chalk or a jump rope. Many of the children we spent time with were so excited to see our team since we have been helping to build their little community for the past 10 years. The relationship with this community is long standing and I believe this trusting relationship only encourages the children to enjoy every moment they have with us when we visit. I hope you enjoy these photos - they are some of my favorites!!

Honduras 2010

I returned today from Honduras. I had an AMAZING time on the trip and really enjoyed my time with the team, the Micah project and the people of Honduras. This trip has impacted me in so many ways that it may take me a few days to refelect and then document all that I have learned, what I experienced and how my life has changed. I will start with showing this picture of our team when we arrived last week. Our team was wonderful and I miss you all very much! Please stay tuned as I process via this blog and display some of my favorite photos. Thank you to all who were praying and/or thinking about us while we were away. I am very blessed!

Spring Break 2010

This year for Spring Break the Dalbey Trio is once again headed to fun and far away destinations. Unfortunately, we are not all going to the same location.

Steven and Preston lelft this afternoon to drive down to Florida to visit Aunt Kristen, Uncle John and Cousins Natalie and Jack. They will be gone all week and I am sure they will have a BLAST. I look forward to hearing fun stories and seeing great pictures of the cousins together. Preston is SO excited to visit them. He kept saying their names over and over again. So sweet.
I am heading to Honduras tomorrow morning with our Senior High Youth Group from Central. We are going down to serve the students and staff of the Micah Project. Please visit their webiste link on the right side of this page to learn more about this amazing ministry. I am excited to go and serve, spend time with students and experience culture outside of the states. Here is our super cool logo for this years trip. I would also appreciate your thoughts and prayers while I am away.
I do not anticipate having much email access while in Honduras. If I do, I will be connecting with Steven and letting family know how I am doing rather than trying to update the blog. I plan to update everyone with stories and photos upon my return.
Have a great Spring Break 2010!

Update

We have had a good week in the Dalbey family.

Monday: Preston had fun at PEEPs playing with his friends in the morning. Here is a short video of him going down the slide at Church.

In the afternoon, I took him to the doctor to follow up from his ear infection a few weeks ago. His ears are clear and he continues to grow.

Tuesday: Daddy had to work, but mommy and Preston had fun playing with cars, trucks, toys, etc... We also went for a long walk outside which was nice!! Oh yes, Preston ate Brocolli for the first time!! Good job buddy!

Wednesday: Happy St. Patricks day. Here is a photo of Preston with some green! Note - Mr. Frog is green and goes EVERYWHERE.

Saturday

What do you do when it is cloudy and rainy on a Saturday? Preston cleaned his truck with the dust broom and played with his toys. Daddy had lunch with a student and Katrina did laundry and took Preston to the grocery store. Fun times! We are hoping for a sunny day very soon so that we can go to the park and play. Enjoy the photos.

Spring

Ahh, Spring is almost here. I can smell it in the air. This morning when I looked outside the grass looked a pale green, not as brown as it did yesterday. I also heard birds chirping outside my window and it is warm enough to wear my flip flops. For those of you that know me well know that I LOVE to wear my Chaco flops and do so everyday when it is warm. I am most excited about the flowers being in bloom very soon as my love for photography grows each year. This photo was taken a few years ago, but it serves as a great reminder of all that is new with the spring season! I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather!!

Haircut

Preston's hair has been looking a bit crazy lately so I decided to give him his FIRST haircut this evening. I cut his hair while he played with his toys in the bathtub. Ahh, the joy of distraction. Here is the after photo. I think it turned out nicely!

Getting over being sick

Well, soon after my last post the Dalbey Trio came down with one of those 'wonderful' 12 hour flu bugs. Preston had it first on Tuesday night, then Steven came down with on Wednesday night and I had it yesterday afternoon/evening. Trust me, you do not want details. All I can say is that I have done a lot of laundry. Yes, I am sure many of you readers have had the same flu bug this season. I guess this is what happens when you forget to get the flu shot...you get the flu. I will make sure that the Dalbey Trio gets the shot in the future.

This morning we all seem to be doing better. Despite all of us loosing a few pounds due to not eating that much the past couple days, we are hanging in there. Also, the sun is up and it looks like it is going to be a nice day. Spring will be here soon and that always helps to cheer me up a bit. Oh yes, I have a sweet video from the other day to share with you. Enjoy!

Catch up

I have been away from my computer for a few days. I am now back and ready to update everyone on what is going on with the Dalbey Trio.

I, Katrina, ended my dance team season last week. While I am sad to not see the girls every week, I am excited to have my Thursday afternoon's back to play with Preston and run other important erands. Here is a photo of Preston with mommy at her last practice! Preston was more interested in sticking out his tongue at the girls that smiling for the camera.
Steven continues to hang out with students from the Youth group in his free time and enjoys every moment. He also continues to be a great help with Preston and we have fun running erands together as a family. Steven has also started giving Preston guitar 'lessons'. Here is a sweet photo of the two of them together the other weekend.
Preston repeats almost everything we say and/or do. He continues to love books and sometimes asks me to read him 5 - 6 books at a time. He is also quite good and telling us what he sees in the books and/or making the various sounds the animals and trucks make. It is super cute. Oh yes, we are also working on teaching him some German. Preston knows how to count to ten so far - way to go buddy!
